The set-up on the ground

  • 1 press helicopter, available for rescue missions
  • 1 medical helicopter for primary interventions
  • 1 Race Direction helicopter, also medically equipped
  • 3 relay aircraft for VHF coverage
  • 6 off-road medical vehicles and 1 ambulance van
  • 2 vehicles carrying the bivouac medical post
  • 4 medical sweeper trucks
  • 20 health professionals: doctors, nurses, osteopaths

Race HQ

Satellite tracking

Every vehicle is fitted with a satellite tracking system. Two Race HQ vehicles monitor the whole caravan around the clock and can:

  • locate each participant precisely in real time;
  • talk directly to vehicles for any alert or assistance.

Route safety

All year round, the organisers work with the ministries of the countries crossed. The route is submitted to the authorities before the reconnaissance and adjusted if needed. During the rally, police and army protect the bivouacs and secure the roads; a daily report of bivouac arrivals is sent to them.

Border crossings

  • Morocco: entry and exit formalities prepared in advance, highly efficient.
  • Mauritania: visas issued directly at the first bivouac.
  • Senegal: smooth and trusted border crossing.
