2012 EDITION : A GREAT RACE...
The fourth edition of the Sonangol AFRICA ECO RACE® was exceptional in many ways. After celebrating competitors on the banks of Lac Rose on the 8th of January, René Metge, the Sporting Director, comes back on the highlights of the event, and congratulates the winners of each category. A 2012 edition difficult and demanding which saw also great human adventures.
The 2012 route, once more created by René Metge, in collaboration with Jose Maria Servia, was not a simple walk in the park. Apart from the original difficulties of the route, competitors had to deal with hard weather conditions. Relatively low temperatures in Morocco and sandstorm in Mauritania, the competitors had to adapt as Rene Metge explains.

JACKY LOOMANS : « UN PODIUM A DAKAR »
Victime d’un bris de moteur sur son Pickup Nissan, l’an dernier, alors qu’il occupait la deuxième place de l’épreuve au sortir du Maroc, Loomans avait choisi de changer de monture en vue de cette AFRICA ECO RACE® 2012. « Malheureusement, il s’avéra au mois d’octobre que le fabricant sud-africain du Toyota Hilux ne pourrait pas honorer le carnet de commande dans les délais, explique Loomans. J’ai alors trouvé un gentlemen agreement avec Overdrive et Jean-Marc Fortin… »
