Two months before the big start from Monaco to Dakar, the team of the AFRICA ECO RACE® is more than ever at their best to prepare for this 9th edition. Especially with a number of competitors which is growing, we have to find some solutions to ensure that the event remains perfectly organized with almost the same family spirit that animates it since its creation back in 2009.

The main change of the 2017 AFRICA ECO RACE® will be in terms of logistics. Even though the start will still be given from Principality of Monaco, once again on Quai Antoine 1er, right in front of famous restaurant Stars’N’Bars, before that, administrative checks and scrutineering will take place in Menton.

Jean Louis Schlesser took contact with this city for several reasons:

"We had to find an alternative solution for administrative checks and scrutineering as the Monte Carlo Country Club, which hosted us last year, is currently under construction. But even in Monaco, there is not really enough space to accommodate the caravan of the AFRICA ECO RACE® which is much more consistent this year. Only minutes away from Monaco is the City of Menton, which is known to receive many events all year round. They agreed to accommodate us by mobilizing the various city services to fit our needs. Thus, the administrative checks and scrutineering will take place in two football stadiums located one opposite the other, in the city center and near the sea. Once again, the participants of the AFRICA ECO RACE® will benefit of a beautiful postcard view in this city where the sun apparently shines 316 days a year, with all amenities for catering and accommodation. After the traditional briefing held at Stars'N' Bars, our partner, the start ceremony will take place in Monaco on Saturday December 31st in late morning with Adriana, our embassadress who will also visit the competitors during administrative checks and scrutineering.
Competitors will then join as they wish, the port of Sète to board on the ferry where they will spend New Year's Eve in the middle of the Mediterranean sea. Difficult to begin such an adventure in a better way !

Soon, the AFRICA ECO RACE® competitors department will forward all information about Menton and Monaco to participants which already registered.

With about 30 represented nationalities, the AFRICA ECO RACE® 2017 will clearly pass to a new level of competition. Above all, the quality of the field, both on two and on four wheels, should offer a very even and competitive race as was also the case in the Auto category in the last edition. Only twenty days are left before entries close, but already it is understood that the Norwegian Pal Anders ULLEVALSTETER, who won the last two editions, will fight to keep his title as well as Kazakhstan's Kanat SHAGIROV who won last year in the Auto category. KAMAZ will be back for fight in the truck category. Sergey KUPRIANOV with his hybrid truck, will this year be joined by Andrey KARGINOV winner of the 2014 Dakar.

The last two months of preparation which are ahead are very active on Monaco’s side, where the staff of the AFRICA ECO RACE® is now based. Also, new features could still come decorate this 9th edition of the Monaco-Dakar. For example, the creation of OPEN AER in the Auto category which concern rigid axle vehicles on two or four wheel drive with a front engine, as its the case on a PROTRUCK for example.
